Network communications titan Cisco Systems Inc. is looking to evolve the technological effectiveness of boardroom business meetings and company training with the introduction of two new TelePresence video link systems.

Hailed as the “next evolution in virtual communications” the TelePresence environment utilises advanced audio, high-definition video screens, and interactive elements to deliver an immersive and networked inter-company meeting experience.

Through the integration of its TelePresence technology, San Francisco-based Cisco is hoping to help its customers shorten sales and product development cycles while also contributing to the improvement of operational efficiency and the practice of environmentally-friendly business.

The existing TelePresence portfolio (namely models 1000 and 3000) are now joined by the more personally-targeted TelePresence 500 and the expansive scope of the TelePresence 3200.

Cisco’s cheaper and small form factor 500 System enables businesses to incorporate intimate one-on-one meetings through a single 37-inch display, camera, innovative microphone array, speakers and specially-designed lighting. The result of the scaled back 500 System is to enable individual employees to join meetings without ever having to leave their personal workspaces. When not used for relaying the user as a life-size participant at a business meeting, the 500 display can also be used by employees as a second monitor.

In contrast to the intimacy of the 500 System, Cisco is using the 3200 System to build on the initial six-person capacity of its life-size 3000 System. Specifically, the 3200 System triples on-screen member participation by augmenting the virtual table with a second row of virtual seating for larger events, business headquarters, regional offices, etc.

“As a leading provider of business software solutions, we are constantly rethinking success and what it takes to be agile, integrated, and flexible to respond to change and complex pressures -- to do more, and deliver more effectively to our customers,” said Dietmar Bruder, vice president of Cisco customer SAP IT Infrastructure Services.

“With Cisco TelePresence, we can work faster without sacrificing any of the face-to-face interaction that is so crucial to gaining consensus across teams. The CTS 3200 especially helps us scale training and handle larger meetings, it’s a key addition to our Cisco TelePresence portfolio,” he added.

Not a ready purchase for the more casual user, the TelePresence 500 has a list price of $33,900 USD, while the TelePresence 3200 proves slightly more testing on the pocket at a whopping $340,000 USD. Both systems are due to ship in the third quarter. Existing TelePresence 3000 customers can purchase a 3200 upgrade kit for as little as $90,000.
